—August 11, 2025— New data from shopping rewards platform Shopkick, featured in an NBC 10 NEWS report, shows that families started their back-to-school shopping months ahead of schedule. According to Shopkick, this early start was a direct result of shoppers trying to beat potential price hikes from new tariffs.
“Over 30% of our shoppers had already started by June, and then 56% planned to start early,” says Sarah Jankowski, Director of User Growth for Shopkick. The data also reveals that 70% of families said that tariffs were impacting their back-to-school budgets, leading them to focus on essentials, buy second-hand, and shop at dollar stores.
