Mobile Engineering Manager

San Francisco · Full-time · Management

About The Position

Shopkick, A Trax Company, is a shopping app (30M+ downloads) that connects brands and retailers to consumers along the entire path to purchase. We provide measurable solutions for our customers as we get our audience to engage with content, learn about and pick up products helping drive incremental store traffic and sales using “kicks” instead of cash back, coupons, or discounts. 

The ideal candidate is obsessed with engineering excellence and leading and building strong teams. You will work closely with senior engineers to architect & develop the best technical design and approach for product development, communicating them effectively with engineers, partners, leaders, and a broad set of stakeholders. This leader can think long-term, advocate for strong engineering excellence, and bring in their own software development best practices as well as follow best practices from the broader development community. You will be a great people manager who develops and enables your team to grow and succeed.

  • Manage and grow a strong mobile engineering team focused on delivering results and engineering excellence across the engineering lifecycle - design, build, test, release, and operate, i.e., a full ownership model 
  • Communicate directions and decisions effectively with the team and stakeholders 
  • Build alignment with engineering, design, and product leadership 
  • Foster cross-team communication ensuring mobile engineers work closely with the broader engineering team 
  • Ensure that individuals on the team are learning, growing, and advancing in their careers 
  • Cultivate an environment where team members are empowered and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership 
  • Ensure the engineering department’s processes are followed and maintained 
  • Participate in Agile workflows (sprint planning, daily scrum, retrospectives) 



  • 2+ years of engineering leadership experience 
  • 5+ years of designing, developing and shipping high-quality mobile software at scale 
  • Practical knowledge of mobile application architecture 
  • Strong experience with mobile UI design principles, patterns, and best practices 
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements 
  • Experience working asynchronously on a remote, distributed team 
  • Strong attention to detail, planning, and organization 
  • Experience communicating with high-level stakeholders and executing large initiatives 
  • Passionate about fostering good engineering practices and processes 
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills both in-person and utilizing a team communication tool such as Slack 
  • BS in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience 


  • Knowledge of testing, profiling, and debugging practices 
  • Experience with remote teams & culture
